How the recommendation is worked out

Net saving = (home price − destination price) × expected uplift, minus the extra fuel burned getting to and from the diversion, minus any landing fee at the destination. If that net figure is above your chosen threshold, it's flagged as worth diverting for; if it's positive but small, it's flagged as marginal; otherwise your home fuel is shown as the better option.

Distances use the great-circle (direct) distance between airfields, not an actual flown route, and the Trip Planner mode measures the extra distance a diversion adds over flying direct from departure to destination. Landing fees are only included where they've been recorded and verified — many airfields in this dataset don't have one yet, so a net saving assumes £0 landing fee until it's confirmed. Wherever that's the case (missing, or recorded but not yet checked), you'll see "(fee unconfirmed)" next to the figure as a reminder to check before you commit. The home and destination airfield, and every comparison card and table row, all show that airfield's current landing fee (or "not recorded") directly, with its own "Update →" or "Add →" link straight into the "Update a landing fee" form below — no need to hunt for the right entry in the dropdown yourself if you already know the figure's wrong. If you know (or have just been quoted) a fee that isn't on file yet and want to see what it does to the numbers before deciding whether it's worth publishing, use the "try a different fee for this comparison" box next to it — that only affects your own session and is never sent anywhere unless you separately choose "Share this fee →".

This tool only tracks one landing fee per airfield, and single-engine piston is the line we've drawn — most GA visitors fly one, and tracking a fee per aircraft category wasn't worth the added complexity. Expect the real fee to differ if you don't: often lower for a microlight, and often higher for a twin. If that's you, use the "try a different fee for this comparison" box to plug in your own figure rather than trusting the recorded one as-is.

An airfield needs coordinates on file to take part in any of this — if one doesn't, it's excluded from every comparison, and you'll see an "Add coordinates" prompt next to its price (and in a summary notice below the recommendation) rather than it just silently disappearing.

Prices are maintained by hand from airfields' own published rates and from crowdsourced UK fuel-price surveys, dated wherever possible. Nothing here is a live feed from any airfield, and prices go stale — that's what the 🟢🟡🔴 confidence badge is for. See something wrong or missing? Use "Update a fuel price" above.

A price verified more than 3 months ago (🔴) still appears in the full list of options below, but it's never picked as the recommendation, or badged Cheapest or Closest cheaper — a stale price is easy to miss if you're skimming for the highlighted pick, so it doesn't get to be one.
